Introduction
The Horn of Africa has long been suffering from an ongoing terrorist insurgency in Somalia and more recently from several internal conflicts in Ethiopia. To compound this, the region has recently faced the worst drought in over 40 years, followed by floods, fuelling the crises in an already unstable region. Water scarcity and insecurity is one of the drivers of the humanitarian crisis that has led millions of children to be malnourished, and millions of families to flee their homes in search of food, water and safety.
The committee should discuss ways to alleviate the immediate crisis, but also find ways to increase the resilience of the region and discuss measures to be able to do this whilst the region is also involved in armed conflict.
