Introduction
Since the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan in the summer of 2021, Taliban forces have once again taken control of the country. International recognition of this new regime is limited and most of the country’s assets as well as almost all international aid have been frozen. The UN have, thus far, not recognised the Taliban as the legitimate representative of the Afghan people in the organisation. The committee should discuss the new reality in Afghanistan and decide how the international community should move forward regarding the new regime.
