Introduction
Recent years have seen an increase in tension between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of China (Taiwan). The visit of US Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan in 2022 led to prolonged military exercises by the Chinese navy and increasingly bellicose rhetoric. A possible conflict between China and Taiwan is likely to escalate and draw in many other countries from all over the globe with immense economic and security implications. The committee should discuss these events and work towards de-escalation.
