The General Assembly is the largest organ of the United Nations, with all 193 Member States of the United Nations as members with equal representation: one nation, one vote. General Assembly deals in all matters except international peace and security, which is the exclusive domain of the Security Council. The General Assembly has been split up into several sub-committees, at LEMUN we will entertain three of those sub-committees.
The General Assembly 1 deals with disarmament and international security issues. In the past, the GA 1 has discussed topics such as the use of cluster munitions or the disarmament of regions in North-Africa
The Issues for 2018 are:
The Question of:
- Compliance with the convention on the prohibition of the development, production, stockpiling and use of chemical weapons and their destruction in the Syrian Arab Republic
- Preventing crime syndicates from gaining access to heavy guerilla weaponry in the Americas
- Prevention of an arms race in outer space
- The situation in Nicaragua
The other issues will be announced later.
