Introduction
Yemen has been in civil conflict for almost ten years, and in conflict for over thirty years. Before the civil war, it was already one of the poorest countries in the region. Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula has taken advantage to gain influence in the country. The main divide in the current civil war however is between the Houthi movement backed by Iran, and the Hadi government backed by Saudi Arabia, US, UK and France. This foreign backing of the conflict constitutes a proxy war between Saudi Arabia and Iran, struggling for influence in the Arab and Islamic world.
The Arab League should not only be focused upon the problems in Yemen, but also upon the relation of Saudi Arabia and Iran which plays a major role in resolving this issue.
